    Description

The STVT assesses a candidate's ability to understand and reason with written information. Candidates are presented with a number of short passages that are similar in complexity to station and ticket office rules and procedures. They must then answer multiple-choice questions based around these these passages.

Here is an example of the type of passages and questions you might find in the STVT:

Example: Lost items on a train

If a customer comes to station office enquiring about an item that they lost or left on the train they should first be asked where to and from they got the train and if that train is still on its journey. The customer's full name, contact details and description of the item must be provided. The station staff should inform control so they can contact the train driver to look out for the missing item after the journey is complete.

The driver must then contact control who will then contact the relevant station to inform them whether or not their missing item was found. Even if the item has not been found the station office staff must contact the customer to inform them of their missing item.

    1. What must is the first thing the station staff should do?

    1. Ask for the customer details
    2. Ask for the customers train journey details
    3. Contact control
    4. Contact the train driver

    2. When should the train driver tell control about the missing item?

    1. Only if the lost item has been found
    2. Only if the lost item has not been found
    3. Regardless of whether or not the lost item has been found
    4. Only if control contacts train driver
