Description
This exercise gives assessors a real demonstration of a candidate's ability to work accurately with spoken and written job-related information and to produce an accurate and comprehensible written report as required in the train driving role.
The rWce has been designed specifically for the train driver role and is based on comprehensive job analysis and validation of the UK train driver role. This exercise assesses comprehension of both spoken and written communication and production of appropriate and accurate written communication in a work-related context. Specifically, the exercise assesses an applicant's ability to prepare short written reports based on safety incidents and complete simple check-lists which are key skills for train driving performance.
The rWce is in two parts:
- Part 1 assesses the candidate's ability to listen to a message about a rail incident, make notes and then write a short report based on the incident being reported in the message.
- Part 2 assesses the candidate's ability to read written information and from it extract details and then complete a report form. The report form must be completed as accurately as possible.
A recent research study showed that a UK train driver's performance on this test was related to his/her communication skills and safety performance as a train driver.
