Description
The Managing Unexpected Situations (MUS) test assesses a candidate's ability to deal effectively with an evolving situation. The candidate is assessed on their ability to respond to and resolve emerging problems effectively and efficiently within realistic constraints, as well as ensuring appropriate and timely communications.
The candidate is provided with information about a true-to-life scenario for which they are the co-ordinator. The candidate brief includes an anticipated programme of activities for an event, details of the venue and people who will be working at the event along with information about the co-ordinators' job role. During the course of the exercise, the candidate is presented with problems that have occurred and they must use their judgement to decide the best course of action and who must be told what and when.
The candidate is presented with a range of potential solutions to each problem. They have to select the most appropriate solution from those presented. The assessor uses a scoring key to allocate marks to the solutions selected by the candidate. The candidate's score can then be referenced against an appropriate norm group to help determine the candidate's performance.
The MUS can give you a valuable insight into your candidate’s ability to manage and resolve emerging problems effectively and efficiently.
